Fighting stage IV lung adenocarcinoma

Donation protected
My name is Mira, mother of 2 girls and a paediatric trainee in the UK.

My sister is Argentina, she is herself a mum and a very dedicated lawyer.

This is our mum.

She is not a diagnosis. She is not “stage IV micropapillary and solid pattern lung adenocarcinoma.”
She is strength. She is sacrifice. She is resilience.

She raised two daughters through financial hardship, never once putting herself first. She made sure one became a lawyer and the other a doctor. She carried the weight of the world quietly, fiercely, and with dignity.

Now she is facing the fight of her life.

Our mum lives in the Republic of Moldova, where access to advanced cancer treatment is painfully limited. The only option she was given if eligible is first generation anti-EGFR treatment and maybe chemotherapy. Targeted therapy and modern immunotherapy — treatments that could give her real hope — are not available to her. Surgery is no longer an option because the cancer has spread.

To even determine the best treatment, her biopsies have been sent to a private laboratory in the EU and the cost to be covered personally. Afterwards, she will need to start treatment immediately given how much time has lapsed since her being symptomatic.

She never smoked. She is only 58. There is a strong possibility that her cancer carries mutations that can be treated with new, life-extending therapies.

But hope comes at a cost.

Targeted treatments are estimated at £5,000–£10,000 per month — far beyond what our family can sustain for more than a short time. This is not a matter of comfort. It is a matter of time, chances and life.

She has three grandchildren, all under five years old. She dreams of more summers with them. More hugs. More birthdays. More stories.

We need our mum.
Her grandchildren need their grandmother.
And she deserves a fighting chance.

As soon as she finds out the mutations she carries, we want to make the treatment available for her. Therefore, I have opened an account where all donations matter!

Thank you so much for your support!
