"The big C" as Cindy calls it, is a word that nobody wants to hear, although it affects millions of people everyday. Lung cancer is a surprisingly common disease and accounts for about 13% of all new cancer diagnoses, however, unfortunately is the least clinically funded in the U.S.
We are devastated to share that Cindy was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer in September 2023. She was diagnosed after months of dealing with back pain, only to find metastasized bone tumors in her lower/upper spine, lungs, colon, and upper GI tract.
Cindy continues to fight everyday and is undergoing radiation/chemotherapy, prohibiting her from working at this time. Since the diagnosis, many friends and family have reached out to ask how they can support Cindy during this time.
One thing about Cindy is that she has always been the first person to jump out of her seat to help everyone else. Whether it be her friends, family, or co-workers, she has the biggest heart, and never asks for help from anyone- even when it's necessary.
First and foremost, Cindy and her family would sincerely appreciate your prayers and vocal support. Words of encouragement and checking in, is significant and important support.
In honor of November being Lung Cancer Awareness Month- Cindy's daughter Hanna and her friends will be walking a full marathon in Green Bay on November 18, 2023. A portion of the proceeds will go directly towards Cindy’s medical expenses. As for the remaining proceeds, Cindy would like to spread sunshine to other current Green Bay Cancer Center patients with encouraging notes and monetary support. Witnessing other people in similar situations is important for Cindy to acknowledge that in her journey she is not alone. Acts of kindness, big or small, can make a huge difference in someone's day.
The "Cindy's Flower Power" Lung Cancer Awareness walk will take place on November 18th in Green Bay, ending at the Black Sheep Pub and Grill off of Bay Settlement Road around 4:30pm- everyone welcome to join!
If anyone is interested in joining the walk or meeting us at the finish line please reach out to Hanna Lech.
UPDATE: If you would like to join for a portion of the walk- there will be a 2.83 mile loop in the route around Lambeau Field, anyone is welcome to join! We are meeting at 10:30am at the corner of Holmgreen and Mike MCarthy Way. Pictures of the map are on Hanna Lech's Facebook.
Please continue to check back on this page or Hanna’s facebook for more updates and to follow along during “Cindy’s Flower Power” Lung Cancer Awareness walk.
