Fighting Leiomyosarcoma After Tragedy,No Vehicle, No Support

I thought I was starting over in my 40s. I became pregnant and was excited to welcome a baby girl. During that time, I had a lump on my leg that had been dismissed as a hernia. After getting sick with the flu while pregnant, I ended up in the ER and was sent home. That night, I woke up covered in blood. At 6 months pregnant, I was miscarrying.

At the hospital, I was left bleeding for hours before someone finally helped. I needed a blood transfusion and truly thought I wouldn’t make it. A few days later, I got the call—my lab results were back. It was cancer. I was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer.

We had just moved to Woodbridge, VA, and I had to take the first doctor available while trying to care for my family. Since then, I’ve had radiation, multiple surgeries, a full hysterectomy, and the tumor removed from my leg. I’ve changed doctors many times searching for proper sarcoma care, most of which is far from home.

We’ve been without a vehicle for over six months, and I’ve had to put my treatment and scans on hold. Some months, we had 40–50 medical appointments. Everything—cancer care, appointments, even groceries—is impossible without a car. I filed my taxes in February and they’re still being held. We’ve tried everything. I have a tax advocate & congress office trying to help.

We have no family nearby and very few friends who have already done all they can. I’m asking for help to get reliable transportation and meet basic survival needs while I fight this cancer.
