Help Adam Fight Gastroparesis and Climb Out of Medical Debt

Hi, my name is Adam Spencer, and I never thought I’d be in a position where I’d have to ask for help like this. But here I am, reaching out because I’ve been recently diagnosed with gastroparesis, a chronic and debilitating condition that has completely turned my life upside down.

Gastroparesis is a disorder that slows or stops the movement of food from my stomach to the rest of my digestive system. It causes severe nausea, vomiting, bloating, early fullness, and constant pain and fatigue. Most days, I struggle just to eat, and even on “better” days, I’m exhausted and uncomfortable. This condition doesn’t go away, and unfortunately, there’s no cure—just ways to try and manage it.

Because of this illness, I’ve had to step away from steady work. The symptoms are unpredictable and make it nearly impossible to hold down a job, let alone be present and reliable in a traditional work setting. This has put an enormous strain on my family and me—mentally, physically, and financially.

To date, I’ve racked up over $8,000 in medical debt from hospital visits, tests, medications, and specialists. And the bills keep coming. On top of that, I still need ongoing care and follow-up treatment to manage this condition. I’ve applied for Supplemental Security Income (SSI), but that process takes time, and right now, I’m just trying to stay afloat.

I’m a husband and a father, and not being able to provide the way I used to has been the hardest part of all this. I want to be present for my daughter and keep a stable home for our family, but this illness has made even the basics—like rent, groceries, and gas to get to appointments—feel out of reach.
