In Loving Memory of Ty: Supporting His Family After His Passing

It is with the deepest sadness that we share that our beloved Ty has passed away.

On December 30, 2020, Ty was shot in the head inside his own home by someone he once trusted and loved. Against all odds, he found the strength to call 911 and stayed on the phone until help arrived. Though he was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital, emergency responders revived him — beginning a nearly five-year journey marked by unimaginable courage, pain, and resilience.

For years, Ty fought to recover. He endured 14 brain surgeries, a tracheostomy and feeding tube, multiple skin grafts, permanent vision and hearing loss, and the loss of many basic abilities he had to relearn from scratch. Despite everything, Ty never stopped fighting — and his determination inspired everyone who knew him.

A Final Battle

In September 2025, Ty was admitted to OSU Hospital after experiencing worsening headaches and confusion. Doctors discovered he had developed bacterial meningitis, a life-threatening infection caused by complications with his brain shunt. After emergency surgery, Ty suffered a devastating brain stem stroke. He never regained consciousness.

On Friday October 24th, surrounded by his family and those who loved him most, Ty’s long and courageous battle came to an end.

How You Can Help

Our family is heartbroken. Ty’s parents — my aunt and uncle — devoted their lives to caring for him. His father left his job and home in South Carolina to stay by his side, while his mother took leave from work to remain near him during every surgery and setback. They now face not only the pain of losing their son, but also the financial burden of funeral expenses and years of lost income.

All funds raised will go directly toward:

-Funeral and memorial expenses

-Travel and housing support for Ty’s parents

-Remaining medical and care costs

-Financial relief as his parents rebuild their lives
