In June of 2022, my life changed forever when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. A few weeks later, while I was still trying to process that diagnosis, we learned something devastating: our insurance company would not cover my cancer treatment because it “wasn’t in my plan.”
That decision left us responsible for the full cost of chemotherapy, surgeries, and radiation. The hospital system was able to enroll our family in a CareSource insurance plan but it only covered a small portion of my treatment. What should have been my sole focus—surviving cancer—quickly became overshadowed by overwhelming medical bills.
Even after completing treatment, the expenses haven’t stopped. I am required to continue seeing doctors regularly for scans and testing every other month to monitor my health, which means the medical debt continues to grow. We have paid what we can, when we can, while living paycheck to paycheck and still trying to save here and there to give our family moments of normalcy and joy.
Now, despite our efforts, medical debt collectors have begun taking legal action against me. This is not a position I ever imagined being in. When I was first diagnosed, several people suggested I create a GoFundMe. At the time, I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I didn’t want to feel like I was asking for handouts or burdening others.
But today, we are out of options, and we are truly desperate for help. All funds raised through this page will go directly toward paying down my medical debt and helping us navigate this overwhelming financial burden.
There are many ways to support us. If you’re able to donate, we are deeply grateful. If you’re not, we ask for your prayers—for peace, strength, protection, and healing for our family during this incredibly difficult season. Sharing this page and keeping us in your thoughts means more than you know.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, for your kindness, and for standing with us when we need it most.
