Hi, my name is Heather, and I’m organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my friend Jamie’s dad, Mark.
Over the years, I’ve spent many days at their home, and Mark quickly became like family to me. In early recovery, he welcomed me into their home like I was his own daughter. Family dinners, walks with the dogs, football Sundays, you name it. He’s one of the most positive people I’ve ever met—always greeting everyone with a smile, no matter what he’s going through. His warmth and kindness leave a lasting impression on everyone around him, and now it’s our turn to show up for him.
Mark is a Marine veteran who has always been strong and resilient. Years ago, while serving, he suffered a severe liver injury that left lasting scars. For decades, he rarely got sick and lived a whole life. Sadly, things have recently taken a very difficult turn.
Mark has been diagnosed with Signet Ring Cell Carcinoma (SRCC), a rare and aggressive form of adenocarcinoma. In his case, the doctors have not been able to determine where the cancer began, but it is advanced and has already caused serious complications, including fluid buildup in his abdomen, which has to be treated bi-weekly.
The treatment options being offered through the VA are limited and mostly focused on managing symptoms rather than truly fighting the disease. To make things more complicated, because Mark has relied on VA coverage, he only has Medicare Part A. He doesn’t have Part B, which means many treatments outside the VA are not covered until he can enroll again in February 2026. Our goal right now is to gather the necessary funds needed to put down a deposit with the Mayo Clinic. The Mayo has offered additional testing and possible options, but requires a deposit while he waits for enrollment. This leaves his family facing large out-of-pocket costs right now, at the exact moment when he needs care the most
That’s why I’m asking for help on Jamie’s behalf. Every donation will go directly toward Mark’s medical care, travel for treatment, medications, and supportive needs. Even if you can’t give, sharing this fundraiser and keeping their family in your prayers would mean the world.
Mark has always been someone who puts others first. Now, he and his family need us to stand by them. Together, we can help lighten their burden and give them hope.
Thank you so much for your love, prayers, and support.
