Fighting for Rusty
Hello Friends and Family! Thank you for your time to read Rusty's story. Rusty Beckelhymer is a fighter. He is fighting a battle with cancer, and those that love him are fighting by his side. In March of 2021 Rusty was diagnosed with Stage 3 Esophageal Cancer. Rusty's life forever changed. The point where his esophagus meets his stomach is where the cancer was located. Rusty endured 5 weeks of chemotherapy and radiation. This battle has just begun. On July 12th, Rusty underwent a complete removal of his esophagus, and over half of his stomach. A new esophagus was built from the remainder of his stomach. So many challenges and obstacles lay ahead for Rusty, but his determination and fight to overcome cancer pushes him on everyday. The extent of Rusty's surgery has forever changed his ability to function in a normal life. Imagine never being able to lay flat again. Rusty no longer has a sphincter, which is normally what keeps fluids and food in your stomach. If he lays flat, he runs the risk of choking to death. On top of that, Rusty will forever have to take all medication via liquid form. All nutrition will also be in liquid form. That is what Rusty is now facing.
Family and friends, will you help Rusty fight his battle? He will soon be home and his ability to function and sleep is one of the biggest challenges to face. With the support and assistance we can provide to Rusty, a medical adjustable bed can be purchased for Rusty. This bed will allow him to sleep safely without choking. Your love and support will help Rusty to heal and beat this disease. Your support will also allow his family to make extensive renovations to his bathroom shower, providing safe access. Thank you again for your time and remember, WE FIGHT LIKE RUSTY FIGHTS!
