After 165 days in hospitals, nursing homes, and rehab - Phil "Burnout" Schaefer was officially welcomed back home with his wife, daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren on July 19, 2021. A ramp was built, a bedroom set-up and a world of other changes. We are now looking for more support to pay for an in-home nurses aide that can give Phil his daily medicines, work on exercising and overall companionship. His mind is an open door, for brief moments he is comfortable and like his normal self and other times he is riddled with paranoia and confusion. Please continue to keep him lifted with your positive vibes, prayers, or sacrifices to whatever deity you trust.
If you would like to continue to support Phil through is recovery we are still accepting donations:
- $300 for a week of care by the Certified Nurses Aide
- $30 for a weeks supply of sterile and disposable bed pads
- $12 for a case of guacamole, his favorite snack
On March 8, 2021, during an evening ZOOM call - Phill responded to the sound of wife, Sandy, from across the room and her clapping. You can hear all of our excitement! We cheered, we cried, and we were astounded. Keep fighting Phill, and we'll keep fighting by your side.
Phill went into cardiac arrest on February 3, 2021 on his way to work for the day. After 8 seizures and an undetermined amount of time(s) without oxygen to the brain, he has been left with an anoxic brain injury. Phill is currently in the ICU at Johns Hopkins Hospital and his family is raising funds to help move him to a specialized brain trauma and injury rehabilitation center. As a truck driver, Phill does not have private insurance but Medicaid. Options for these sorts of facilities with Medicaid are limited and the family needs your help to get the best care for his recovery! We want our father, husband, and friend back and we are fighting to get him there.
As more details are given for the cost of his care and hopefully his future care in a rehabilitation center, we will update this page. Thank you for joining our fight.
