Fighting for Our Mom and the Home She Built
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Taylor.
This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write—but I’m doing it for my mom, Terri Costello, because she deserves peace, safety, and dignity during the fight of her life.
Terri—“TC” to most who know and love her—was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in March 2020, right as the world shut down. While everyone else quarantined, she was alone in a hospital room, being told her cancer was terminal.
That was five years ago. Since then, she’s endured endless surgeries, complications, infections, and relentless pain. Her cancer has spread, and right now, she’s too weak for treatment—but we’re doing everything we can to get her strong enough to try again.
Thanks to an incredible team of nurses, palliative care professionals, and friends who show up every day, she’s receiving consistent support. I left my part-time job to care for her four days a week and five nights, and while she’s still very weak, it’s helping.
She spends most of her days in a hospital recliner we found on Facebook Marketplace—it’s old, but it gives her relief. Her stair lift, which she depends on to safely move between floors, is currently broken. We’re hoping to find someone who can repair it, since we can’t afford a replacement. If you know anyone who can help fix it, please reach out.
Her little dog Toby is still being cared for by a friend. She misses him terribly, but she’s not well enough to care for him on her own right now.
And now her home—our childhood home—is in serious danger.
A tax lien was placed on the house and it could be taken from her at any time. Even if we manage to save it now, Medicaid estate recovery could still take it after she passes. On top of that, the 322 Bypass project in Glassboro threatens the property through eminent domain. We urgently need legal help to protect what’s left of her stability.
As her illness has progressed, it’s become increasingly difficult to bring in funds, and the financial pressure is becoming unsustainable. She raised three kids as a single mom, worked multiple jobs, gave everything she had, and never asked for anything in return. She’s the one who always showed up—cheerfully, selflessly, for anyone who needed her.
Now it’s our turn to show up for her.
We’re raising funds to:
- Hire a lawyer to fight for her home
- Resolve the tax lien and protect it from state seizure
- Cover utilities, medical costs, and basic living expenses
- Fix her broken stair lift
- Provide nourishing snacks and comfort care she can tolerate
This isn’t about a miracle. It’s about protecting her peace, safety, and dignity after a lifetime of giving everything to everyone else.
If you can donate, thank you. If you can share, thank you. Every bit of support truly helps.
With love and deepest gratitude, Taylor
