My sister Kim and her husband Rob are the kind of people who define the word "generous." They both give what they can, when they can, because you never know what someone is going through, and you never know when it could be you. Rob is a proud Navy Veteran, and they always try to help his fellow vets. Kim has countless times given away clothes and other household items to those in need. They have handed over their last $20 bill to help a single mother feed her children, helped make sure pets don't go hungry, and so much more. They are the rock of our family, always there for their son, grandkids, nephew, my husband, and me. Rob was injured in service but continued working after his discharge until the effects of his injuries prevented him from doing so any longer. He is one of the hardest workers I know, always doing what he can to help his friends and family. He is a fixer who never takes a dime for his help. They are true soulmates, and now, they are facing their hardest battle yet.
On March 2, 2026, our lives changed in an instant. While at a friend’s house, Rob suddenly became unresponsive and stopped breathing. Thanks to the heroic quick thinking of friends who started CPR and the tireless efforts of EMS, Rob was kept alive.
He "coded" three times during transport to Hurley Medical Center. Upon arrival, the trauma team and Dr. Zaitoun performed emergency surgery to clear a 95% blockage in his LIMA artery. It took four grueling attempts, but they successfully cleared the blockage and placed a stent.
The Road Ahead
Rob is currently in the CCU. He is a fighter, but the road to recovery is long and uncertain. Neurology has expressed concerns regarding potential brain damage, but Kim and our family aren't giving up on him. He has beaten the odds already. She is by his side from morning until night, exhausted but steady, determined to explore every possible option to bring her husband home. Her strength is incredible.
How You Can Help
Because Kim is staying by Rob's side to coordinate his care and prepare for his eventual transfer to the VA in Ann Arbor, she is unable to work currently. As they transition into this long-term recovery phase, the reality of household expenses and the rising cost of daily travel to the hospital is setting in.
We are asking for your help to ease Kim’s burden so she can focus entirely on Rob’s healing and ease any worries he may have.
Funds raised will go directly toward:
Monthly bills and living expenses to keep their household running.
Gas and travel costs for the daily trips to the hospital and the VA.
Medical necessities not covered by insurance.
If you cannot donate, we cherish your prayers and shares. Rob would do anything for anyone, and we hope to show him that his family, friends, community across the world, and the kindness of strangers are here to carry him and Kim through this storm.
With deepest gratitude,
The Family of Rob & Kim
