Help Nova Fight Leukemia
Hello, my name is Farrah Workman, and I’m the proud mother of six amazing children — four boys (ages 14, 6, 4, and 1) and two girls (ages 9 and 7). My 7-year-old daughter, Nova, is currently fighting acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) — a diagnosis that has completely changed our world.
On April 4, 2025, we took Nova to the emergency room thinking she was just dehydrated. But as doctors began running tests, more and more people started entering the room. They stopped her fluids and told us she wasn’t dehydrated, though they didn’t yet know why. Hours later, her blood test results came back, and we were admitted immediately. Within three days, we learned she had leukemia.
Nova spent 13 days in the hospital, where she had surgery to place her port, began chemotherapy, and underwent her first lumbar puncture. When we finally got to go home, it was only for 12 days before complications hit — blood clots in her lungs and clavicle. We were back in the hospital for another 6 days.
During that time, I was trained to give Nova two shots a day in her belly to treat and prevent more clots. She couldn’t take pills because of how often she needs lumbar punctures. Since then, she has been going to Akron Children’s Hospital once a week for chemo. She even had an allergic reaction to one of her medications, which meant additional injections multiple times a week.
Through it all, Nova has been unbelievably strong — stronger than any child should ever have to be.
Chemotherapy has taken a toll on her body. Some days, she loses strength in her legs and arms and crawls because of the pain. Other days, she amazes me with her energy and smile. Because her immune system is fragile, I teach her from home through online school.
Right now, I’m unable to work because of the frequency of Nova’s treatments and appointments. These past six months have been the hardest of my life — emotionally, physically, and financially. Between hospital stays, long drives, and caring for my other children, there are days I’m not sure how we’ll keep going… but I know we must — for Nova.
Nova’s treatment is expected to continue until June 2027, if all goes as planned. Our biggest need right now is simply to make it through this part of our lives — covering gas for hospital trips, groceries, and basic everyday expenses — until we reach the point where her treatments become monthly and I can hopefully return to work.
Any donation, no matter the amount, helps us take one step closer to stability during this journey. If you can’t donate, please consider sharing Nova’s story — your kindness and support mean the world to us.
From the bottom of my heart,
Thank you for helping Nova fight leukemia.
