Help Me Receive the Gift of Life: A Kidney Transplant
My name is Shalana, and I am asking for your help as I fight for a second chance at life.
I have been on dialysis for 33 years. My doctors have told me how extraordinary that is, as many kidney failure patients survive only 7 to 10 years on dialysis. I thank God every day for carrying me this far, but my journey has been filled with countless challenges, hospitalizations, surgeries, and procedures.
Over the years, I have developed Superior Vena Cava (SVC) Syndrome and Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, which have caused severe blockages in my blood vessels. I have undergone numerous surgeries and procedures to place stents to keep those vessels open so I could continue receiving dialysis treatments.
There was also a time when I needed both a tracheostomy (trach) and a feeding tube (G-tube). By the grace of God, I was blessed to have both removed, and I continue to fight every day with faith and hope.
Today, my greatest prayer is to receive a life-saving kidney transplant, whether from a living donor or a deceased donor. This transplant represents more than just a surgery—it represents hope, healing, and the opportunity to finally live a life without dialysis.
I am raising funds to help cover the many transplant-related expenses, including:
* Medical expenses not covered by insurance
* Anti-rejection medications that I will need after my transplant to help protect my new kidney
* Travel, gas, meals, and lodging for me and my caregiver during transplant appointments, surgery, and recovery
* Housing and household expenses while I recover
* Living donor-related expenses that are eligible for financial assistance through the transplant process
* Follow-up medical appointments and recovery costs

Receiving a kidney transplant would give me the opportunity to live longer, regain my independence, and begin a new chapter in my life. It would also allow me to continue pursuing my dreams of returning to college to complete my Business degree and to pursue my passion for acting and modeling. I refuse to give up on the dreams God has placed in my heart.
