Fighting for Matt

Donation protected

On November 14th Matthew Strenk was in a terrible car accident in Charleston, South Carolina. This night will forever be remembered by everyone who received this terrible phone call.
Right after leaving his girlfriend’s house to go give an estimate on a job, he was hit broad side when coming onto oncoming traffic. He was then ejected from his vehicle and immediately went into cardiac arrest, a bystander took the initiative and performed high quality CPR and brought him back. We all will be forever thankful for this person!
He was then transported to Trident Hospital where he spent 5 hours in surgery. He suffered from an epidural and subdural hematoma, a left skull fracture, a left temporal fracture, a brain stem hemorrhage, along with a right tib/fib fracture with both left and right femur fractures.
Fortunately he made it through surgery. The doctors then spoke to Matt’s father Tom, and told him that he had such a small chance of making it, that most people with this type of injury never make it through the night. He was told that if Matt was older they would have never have made all the efforts that they did to give him a fighting chance.
Matt was then moved to the ICU, intubated with his legs pinned in place to hold all the bones together before doing reconstructive surgery. He also had a bolt placed in his skull with a drain to help with the swelling.
His family and girlfriend have been by his side since day one.
With all this, Matt has made small strides in the right direction, he has responded to painful stimuli and has moved both fingers and toes, along with moving his head. He recently was extubated and a tracheotomy was placed. On November 26th Matt was taken off his vent, while maintaining  his oxygen and continuing to breath on his own for 4 hours. He is fighting!!
For someone who was told there is no hope, he is doing great. We are all aware of the long road that he will have before him, and together we are all here to help him with each day and each new endeavor.
We are fighting for him to become strong enough so that he can be taken off the vent long enough to travel back home, where he will be placed into a rehabilitation hospital.
We are asking everyone to donate whatever you can to help out with medical expenses and transportation to bring him back home!
We also ask that you share this page so it reaches as many people as possible.

Thank You,
The Strenk family.
