Our fellow nursing sister, Jennifer Stuart, is facing a nightmare no mother ever wants or should have to endure. Her son Levi is currently fighting for his life. Levi, at just ten months old was diagnosed with Meningeal Sarcoma. Meningeal Sarcoma is a rare malignant (cancerous) tumor derived from the meningeal connective tissue of the brain. This abnormal mass tends to grow rapidly and may metastasize (spread) outside the central nervous system. Levi’s medical team performed a tumor resection (removal). During the procedure, Levi suffered a stroke. Luck has not been on this young mans side, but today, we are here to try our best to help with this misfortune. He needs your help.
When Levi was four years old, he had five new tumors reappear, one of the tumors being located on his brain stem. With this tumor being in such a sensitive area of the brain, surgery was no longer an option. Levi’s only option was to take part in an experimental procedure known as Gamma Knife. (A treatment using gamma rays, a type of high-energy radiation that can be tightly focused on small tumors.) He was the first child in upstate New York to undergo this experimental high dosage radiation therapy. The procedure was successful, and Levi has been cancer free for the past nine years, this making him the only known survivor with Meningeal Sarcoma.
Recently, Levi has undergone several diagnostics with the results leading his doctors to believe that his mother’s worst fears have redeveloped. In the coming days, Levi will have his braces removed so he can have a CT scan as well as the MRI’s to follow. This will allow the doctors to have a closer look at the development and location of the new tumors, allowing them to come up with the safest surgical procedure to once again try to save this young man’s life. The surgeons will not know if the new tumors are the redevelopment of Meningeal Sarcoma until they are removed and the proper biopsies are performed. The new tumors are half an inch in diameter, one located above his eye and the other located above his ear.
Jennifer Stuart is a fellow nursing student, a few months short of receiving her RN. She is a friend and a mother whose son is once again facing an uphill battle. There is a team of ten nursing students from Finger Lakes Health College of Nursing located in Geneva, NY, who are dedicated to raise as much money as possible to help Jennifer and her family get through this difficult time. NO CHILD SHOULD EVER FACE CANCER. Together we can make a difference. Please help us help Levi and his family. Any donation helps make a difference. This could be your son, your daughter, your brother, or your sister. Please everyone help this family. Donate what you can, she needs to focus on her son and not any kind of financial burden. ❤️
