Thank you for taking the time to hear about our sweet girl, Jackie O.
On July 17th at about 8 pm, Jackie somehow managed to escape out of our very secure backyard and was then hit by a speeding driver in our very quiet neighborhood. All of our neighbors love and adore Jackie and heard her yelp and tires screech. Jackie was brought into the ER immediately after we found her covered in blood. Jackie was unable to walk and was in the ER the entire night in critical condition. Testing revealed no broken bones but multiple ligament tears in her rear left knee, along with pneumothorax (air in the chest cavity from being hit so hard) and elevated ALT. Our vet has advised us to wait until her wounds have healed to go along with surgery to have her ligaments repaired. We are eager to start crowdfunding sooner rather than later. Currently, our first choice is the orthopedic surgeon at Oregon State University. Our estimated surgery bill is between $6,500-$7,500 with at least a 75% deposit on the surgery date. We are currently waiting for our exact surgery quote and expect it to arrive this evening. Additional photo proof will be added as soon as we have it. We have already blown through emergency savings and are continuing to do so in order to care for Jackie. We are asking for our Airedale community to come together and help us give Jackie a chance. Jackie is just 20 days away from her 5th birthday. Otherwise, Jackie is the most healthy and happy dog.
Jackie is a task-trained service dog for myself, a pre-vet college student. Jackie attends all of my classes and is adored by my college community. She is supposed to see me through veterinarian school, but her future is currently jeopardized. Jackie has given me back my freedom after falling out of a 30ft window, which has resulted in aneurysms and other ailments that Jackie is trained to alert and care for. She has saved my life on numerous occasions, and I can only hope to do the same for her.
If you wish to donate outside of GoFundMe, our Venmo and vet office will be linked below for direct contributions. If you are unable to donate, we ask that you share our story with friends and family.
Please help us save Jackie O.
