Raising $$ for Dave's Islet Transplant to fight HU
Donation protected
For those of you that know Dave, you know he is an outstanding dad, a loving husband, a loyal friend and a very hard worker. Many of you may also know that Dave suffers daily from hypoglycemia unawareness, a dangerous condition associated with Type 1 Diabetes in which a person can’t feel or recognize the symptoms of hypoglycemia (significant fall in blood glucose below normal levels).
Too frequently, Dave's hypoglycemia unawareness;
· denies Dave from his independence because at any point and without warning, he may fall unconscious
· increases Dave's risk for additional health concerns due to the sudden and harsh impact on his organs from a blood sugar so low that his body shuts down.
In a fighting effort to save Dave's quality of life, he was approved for Pancreatic Islet Transplantation. (In this type of islet transplantation used to treat type 1 diabetes, doctors take islets with healthy beta cells from the pancreas of a deceased organ donor and transplant them in the recipient.)
However, the transplant of islet cells was not successful for Dave.
Now Daves Insurance is refusing to cover the cost of the two additional islet transplants he’ll need – and the university won’t perform the procedures without payment up front: $60,000 for each.
Our hope with this GoFund me page is a strong community of friends, family and big-hearted people will come together, pool resources, and wrap their arms around David to help him get the treatment he desperately needs.
Imagine the difference we can make for Dave! Please help us raise the $120,000 he needs for a Pancreatic Islet Transplant that could save his life. Thank you.
