Medical Expenses for Ice

Meet Ice, a sweet and playful English Cream Retriever puppy born on April 13, 2025, who brought joy and love into the Bikneris family’s life when they brought him home on July 21, 2025. Ice was a happy, healthy pup—until everything changed on September 19.

Ice suddenly became very ill. He began vomiting, had severe diarrhea, and his abdomen started swelling with fluid—2 to 3 quarts, to be exact. Erica and her family rushed him to Midwest Animal Clinic in Orland Park, IL on September 21, and then to Beecher Veterinary Clinic from September 22 to October 2. Despite extensive testing and care, the vets were unable to determine what was wrong.

Ice was receiving care at the University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital, where specialists were working tirelessly to diagnose and treat him. Ice received a CT scan today, October 4th, and sadly passed away during the scan. They did end up diagnosing him with a Liver Shunt that was inoperable. The necropsy also showed some nodules that are suspected to be cancer. Erica has already spent over $7,000 on vet bills. The University of Illinois bill came to roughly $16,000 plus.
