FIGHTING CHILD HUNGER IN AFRICA

Children are particularly affected by the hunger crisis in Africa. There are far too many starving kids in Africa, every single affected kid is one too much. 3.2 million children under the age of 5 die each year in sub-Saharan Africa - that's about half of the world's deaths in this age group.

This great initiative is put up by four young and inspiring girls,

Malnutrition threatens to destroy a generation of children in Uganda. More than one third of all young children – 2.4 million – are stunted. The damage caused by stunting is irreversible. Between 2013 and 2015, it is estimated that more than 500,000 young Ugandan children died. Of these deaths, nearly half were associated with undernutrition.

Undernutrition is responsible for four in 10 deaths of children under five. Hunger linked to COVID-19 could kill more people than the virus itself according to Oxfam. Covid-19 will be worsening a situation that has been created by the climate crisis. Many intergovernmental organisations and other stakeholders started initiatives to fight world hunger but hunger is not going anywhere. Children remain the major victims. It’s time to rethink the way we respond to hunger in Africa and particularly among children.

Climate activists from India, USA and Uganda (Alexandria, Licy and Leah) have joined hands to fight hunger in Africa. According to the trio, no child deserves to go hungry . The project is targeting children affected by extreme weather events and Covid-19. The project involves providing emergency food parcels to children and setting up food gardens as sustainable, nutritious and cost effective way of availing food to starving children.

2.Home visits
3.Advocacy
4.Setting up home and school gardens to grow vegetables, fruits and seasonal foods Target beneficiaries and number of beneficiaries

The project is targeting starving children, child headed families, orphans, children from rural communities from poor families. The project is expected to benefit at least 20,000 children.

Project Cost/Budget The project is expected to cost €10,000.
