My name is Silvia Blanco. For those who know me well, know that it isn’t easy for me to ask for help, especially like this. In June 2022, my life would completely change. I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (Philadelphia chromosome positive). I spent 9 days in a hospital back home in El Paso. Once that diagnosis was official, my doctor immediately suggested a transfer to MD Anderson in Houston. I never thought things would progress so rapidly. All things considered, I knew that the best choice at fighting this was to accept treatment at MDA. I’ve been here since July 1st missing everything and everyone back home terribly. For those who have already reached out with words of encouragement, thank you! I promised you all that I’m gonna give it my all. Some days are harder than others but I will never let go of my faith, hope, and of course my humor! I hope to be released from the hospital soon but there is still a long road ahead. Having the privilege of being treated with the latest in medical advancements for my disease, comes with some disadvantages being so far from home and my family. I will have to remain in the Houston area for at least a couple of weeks before finally heading home. For at least another 3 months, I will continue to travel back and forth to Houston to continue to receive my immunotherapy treatment. Anything you can help with is greatly appreciated!
