Update 1/16: We met with a lawyer yesterday regarding our case. We had been referred to him by several foster parents that had a successful outcome, and we are feeling confident that we have a chance to win this. What we were not expecting was the range of cost this type case can cost. Quite frankly it felt like a punch in the gut. Retaining him alone was almost every dime that we have raised. As scary as this is, we are committed and willing to do what it takes to keep our child in safe hands. Ultimately there is no amount of money that surpasses the welfare of a child. We have increased our fundraising goal and additionally set up an account with AdoptTogether (in the hopes that we may be able to get assistance with non-profit groups). This is going to be long and costly, but our baby is worth every sleepless night and nail biting written check. Thank you again for your love and support!!!
After almost a year in our care, Oli's case has become so messy that we have decided to intervene and attempt to fight for custody. This is not something that foster parents can do without the full support of a child's team (lawyer, CASA, & CPS). We want what's best for our boy and there is no doubt in anyone's mind that his longterm safety & security is with us.
As most of you know, we are currently in the process of adopting two other children from foster care and hiring an additional lawyer is going to be costly. We had planned on building our family through adoption, but never in our wildest dreams thought we would be adopting 2, and fighting for a third at the same time! Intervening can be an expensive, long and drawn out process, but we can't let our son go without a fight.
Thank you for your spport!
