On Friday, March 9th, Kenny had come back from his 5th grade science camp. His mother, Cindy, had received a call that he had thrown up twice while at camp. When she picked him up he looked very tired and pale-- all he had wanted to do was go home. She took his temperature that evening and he had a mild fever like any normal child gets from time to time. Over the weekend, she kept an eye on him, and noticed he was still vomiting with a high fever.
On Monday, March 12th, she proceeded take him into the Dr. As soon as she got in, they sent him straight to ER. Cindy said it felt like hours waiting on the results of the tests. When the Dr. came in, she had stated Kenny's red blood cell count was extremely low. The nurses were surprised that he had been able to stand up, let alone walk by himself with how low they were. They proceeded to do a blood transfusion and Kenny was moved into the ICU. They hooked him up to IVs. It was then that Dr's told Cindy they were concerned because his counts were still so low. They first had to do a biopsy to check out his bone marrow. It wasn't until Wednesday morning that they gave Cindy the most devastating news.
Cindy heard the awful word that no parent ever wants to hear, Cancer. Her 10 year old, happy and seemingly healthy son had tested positive for NCI High Risk B-lymphoblastic Leukemia. Those are devastating and heartbreaking words for anyone to hear, let alone a parent.
The treatment for Kenny will take 3-5 years. He will be missing around 9 months of school and Cindy has to stop working to care for her son during this difficult time. Being a single mother, with her immediate family out of the country is no easy task.
Thankfully, many people have expressed a desire to help. Church ,Big Brothers and Big Sisters family, friends and coworkers. All of the money collected via this GoFundMe page goes directly to Cindy to help pay for the bills she cannot take care of herself.
We know and believe that which God brings us to, He will bring us through. We ask for your prayers and support for Kenny and his family to overcome this battle. Your donations will help Kenny and his family through this time of need. Thank you for your support, love, and prayers.
