On December 14th, the Sheehan family went to their favorite pediatrician for what was thought to be a simple stomach flu afflicting their 8 year old little boy, Tristan. Following a referral to the local ER and just one ultrasound, their world was turned upside down within hours. “This is cancer.” They were rushed via ambulance to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where it was later determined that Tristan has Stage 3 Burkitt’s Lymphoma which is a rare, rapid-growing and ever-changing cancer. An aggressive chemotherapy treatment plan was initiated immediately, and is expected to last for the next four months. This will require Jeff and Lauren to provide around-the-clock care to Tristan, while also keeping their younger child Henry’s life as routine as possible. While away from work, the Sheehans will need assistance covering basic living expenses including health insurance, mortgage, household bills etc. as well as pending and undetermined additional medical expenses.
