Fight with Ronda to beat cancer
Donation protected
I’ve been friends with Ronda Bakos for the past 16 years. We have struggled together as single mothers with 3 children: picking up sick kids from school, providing rides, attending dance performances, volleyball, soccer and hockey games and sharing both laughs and tears (and occasionally a glass or two of wine) along the way. Ronda has 3 very active teenagers- Ian, Paige and Maxx.
Ronda was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer on July 6 and she is her2 positive, which is a more aggressive form. She had a double mastectomy in August and ended up staying in the hospital twice as long as expected. She had to go to the ER twice the following week because of severe pain and infection. She has had 2 more surgeries since then, which has delayed her chemotherapy treatments. She had her first weekly chemo treatment Wednesday and has 11 more to go. After that is finished she has radiation treatments ahead. It is not going to be an easy road for her or her family for the next 12-24 months.
Ronda is a realtor and an “independent contractor”. There are no company benefits. No health insurance, no short term disability, no vacation or sick pay. Her fiancé Mike is working a full time job in Illinois and a part time job here in West Bend but they still aren’t able to keep up with all the extra bills. She was supposed to get married last month, but that had to be put on hold because of all the insurance stuff. She already cashed out her small 401K. She is extremely worried she is going to lose her house which is the only asset she has left. All the extra stress is not helping her health, obviously. The bills don't stop coming in when you're sick and not able to work.
I've never done anything like this before, but she needs help. We hear about things like this, and we buy a pink ribbon shirt or a pink rubber bracelet to support breast cancer awareness, and that's great, but you can help a real person, right now, and make a big difference to her family. People talk to her and say "let me know if you need anything". Well, this. She needs this. Please help if you can. Her gorgeous kids are pictured below.
