Rex is an adored 16-year-old from Arizona who is facing a battle no teen should have to endure. He was recently hospitalized with flu and pneumonia-like symptoms, and doctors quickly confirmed leukemia. He’s already begun chemotherapy and has a port implanted to receive ongoing treatment, surgeries to administer chemo directly into his bone marrow, along with blood transfusions to support his body through this fight.
Rex’s Spirit and Hope
The moment we visited him after the diagnosis, Rex was still his kind, caring self. He’s always thinking of others.
He told us, with a brave, hopeful heart: “I know I’m going to be okay. But when I see the other kids in here and I know they are not going to be okay… it makes me cry every time. When I get better I want to go into a field where I can help these kids. And I’m definitely giving blood for the rest of my life—someone else’s blood helped save mine.”
Rex loves his family, his curly hair, and the simple joys of life. He’s already thinking beyond his own struggle to help others. The only thing he wants to be able to do is go outside, be in fresh air and sunshine, and be with his Cat (and Dog.)
The Financial and Medical Need
Rex’s treatment is intensive and ongoing, with chemotherapy sessions, medications, and frequent hospital visits.
His family has been juggling several small jobs to make ends meet in a tough economy, while also supporting Rex’s care.
The costs of treatment, travel, medications, and time away from work add up quickly, creating a heavy financial strain on a family that is doing everything they can to stay strong for Rex.
How Your Help Will Make a Difference
Cover essential medical costs not fully covered by insurance (co-pays, deductibles, treatments, tests).
Help with transportation and lodging for when Rex needs to be near the hospital for extended periods.
Alleviate everyday living expenses so Rex’s parents can stay with him and focus on care, rather than worrying about bills.
Support Rex’s recovery, hope, and future—so he can pursue his dream of helping others and, someday, donate blood again to save more lives.
What We’re Asking For
Any amount you can give will make a real difference. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this with friends, family, and community groups would mean the world.
Updates will be shared so you can see Rex’s progress, celebrate small milestones, and know exactly how contributions are helping.
