On August 23, Alexis and Dustin Weidell’s lives changed when their 4-month-old daughter, Charlotte “Charlie,” was taken to the emergency room at Studer/Nemours in Pensacola after weeks of concerning symptoms. At 3:30 AM the following morning, Charlie and Alexis were airlifted to the PICU at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando.
After several days of testing, Charlie was diagnosed with infant B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL), a rare and aggressive form of leukemia in infants her age. This diagnosis means Charlie will need urgent, highly specialized treatment—including intensive chemotherapy.
We are trying to raise $40,000 to help support Charlie and her family throughout the fight for treatment and recovery.
Charlie is an adorable, sweet, precious little girl who brings so much love and joy into her family’s lives. Alexis lovingly calls her “Tweety Bird” because she always has so much to say, and her little coos sound like listening to birds in the morning. She is Daddy’s princess, deeply loved and fiercely cherished, with so much life ahead of her.
Dustin is an Air Force Pararescueman (PJ) who now serves his community as a firefighter. His parents, Marie Landwehr and Larry Weidell, founded and operated The Yoga Haus, a successful yoga studio that served Santa Rosa Beach for many years. Alexis grew up immersed in the waterskiing community through Pickos Waterski School, her family’s longtime Santa Rosa Beach business founded by her parents, Cory and Rose Pickos. Together, Alexis and Dustin are raising Charlie and their 2-year-old son, Rory, as they work to keep their family supported through the difficult road ahead.
Charlie is beginning the initial phase of treatment at Nemours Children's Hospital in Orlando, where the family expects to remain for several more weeks. Her chemotherapy and treatment are expected to continue for at least two years, with the first year being especially intensive.
The financial impact of this fight will be significant.
We are trying to raise $40,000 to help support Charlie and her family throughout this fight. Donations will directly help:
- Cover Charlie’s ongoing and significant medical expenses, including treatment-related costs, insurance, and other medical needs.
- Cover lodging, meals, gas, and travel during Charlie’s hospital stays and appointments.
- Help with childcare and other needs for Rory.
- Assist with moving and housing expenses if the family is likely to relocate closer to Charlie’s treatment team in Pensacola.
- Cover household, time away from work, and other unexpected expenses throughout Charlie’s treatment.
Thank you for your donations and for sharing Charlie’s story. Your generosity and support mean so much to their family.
If you'd like to follow updates, we’ll post daily or weekly updates here.
Fight like a girl, Charlie. You have so many in your corner cheering for you.
