Fight the Good Fight for Kathy DeBiasi-Wilkins
Donation protected
I never thought I would need to write one of these; it's with a heavy heart that I must ask our dear friends and family for help... I'm raising money to help Kathy DeBiasi-Wilkins fight her battle against brain cancer. I will use this forum to help keep friends and family up to date as well as provide some financial support to Kathy and Travis during this difficult time.
In early December of 2021 Kathy started to notice that it was getting harder and harder for her to recall words and remember what she was trying to say. During this time she was undergoing other smaller medical procedures that made access to care easy, her primary care physician ordered a CT to better understand what was going on and rule out other causes. On Dec 10th we learned that Kathy has a mass in her left temporal lobe; the doctor then ordered an MRI to get a better picture of what was going on and ordered Kathy to not drive or go to work, at least until we knew more. On Dec 23rd we learned that there's not one but multiple masses growing in her brain. On Dec 29th we learned of some treatment options and are gearing up for the weeks and months ahead. The doctors think she has high-grade glioma and a biopsy should confirm this.
As of now we are moving forward with a craniotomy with resection (removal) of parts of the tumor where it is safe to do so. The goal is to obtain an official diagnosis so that we can further treatment with chemo, radiation and/or clinical trials to extend Kathy's life so she can continue to do the things she loves. Kathy loves her husband, Travis, her family (especially her mother and great-nieces), the beach and sunshine, and dessert. She wants to see more days spent enjoying those things and they're the biggest motivation and encouragement for her recovery.
Surgery is scheduled for next Tuesday, Jan 4th, 2022 at 1pm. We do know that she will have a long recovery ahead, recovery in the hospital will be lonely with COVID protocols in place, Travis may need to stay nearby in a hotel, support will be needed for recovery at home and she will likely not be able to return to work. All donations will go to Kathy and Travis to help with various expenses that will be incurred over the next few months.
Thank you for the support, prayers and pixie dust, it means a lot to Kathy, Travis and our family.
