A CHALLENGE FOR CHAD
This is my husband chad. Many of you know him, but for those who don't, let me tell you a little bit about him.
Chad is a long time resident of Goshen County and has currently lives in Lingle Wyoming. Many of you know him from your childhood, have worked along side him or know him through his family. His Wife Tanya and their Children, Gabby, Jeremy, Tessa and Brandon also live in the surrounding area. He is the son of Karolyn (Jim) Stovall of Torrington, Wy. and Marv (Deb) Billings of Lingle, Wy.
Chad was employed for almost 20 years by Autumn Pine Construction. He built dozens of beautiful Homes for many of you in the local Area and remodeled many of your homes also. It takes a lot of energy to be in the construction business, energy he no longer has due to his illness. Losing his employment due to the onset of the Covid 19 pandemic was just the beginning of what was yet to come. One month before losing his Job, He also lost several family members including his Grandmother and brother in law.
Chad then fell ill himself.
On August 26, 2020 Chad was taken to The local clinic due to sever abdominal pain. Unable to stand in an upright position or withstand a physical exam, the Dr. chose to send him to the emergency room. Once admitted into the ER, he was taking in for an exam, blood work and CT scan. The tests came back with not so great news. He had Diverticula. A stomach\colon disorder that needed attention. He was then admitted into our local hospital for treatment.
Diverticula is manageable, most of the time, through antibiotic treatments and resting the colon, so we believed there was no need to worry. They sent him home a few days later with oral antibiotics and we hoped for a quick recovery. Things at that point looked like he was on his way back to being the healthy man we all knew. Instead, things took a turn in the other direction.
For the next 6 days at home, Chad never got any better. Only much worse. He had lost a large amount of weight due to no being able to eat. Again he began to have severe abdominal pain, high fevers, and was unable to walk in a total up right position. The same symptoms he had before but more intensified this time. Back to the ER for more tests and blood work. This time revealing through a CT scan that the diverticula had progressed into diverticulitis.
A perforation of his colon caused by a 9 cm abscess on his intestinal wall had allowed an opening into his stomach for bacteria to enter. In turn causing damage to surrounding tissue. His white blood count was at 25,000 and rising. He was again admitted to our local hospital for more iv antibiotics and testing.
Within 24 hrs the Dr.s all agreed that he needed to be taken to a larger hospital due to turning septic. His condition was now life threatening. He needed a drain put through his stomach to drain the large growing abscess. He was extremely ill from the major infection his body was trying to fight.
He spent the next nine days in Greeleys Northern Colorado Medical Center receiving powerful iv medications and two different drain tubes that were put in place. After his extended stay In Colorado He was again released but not out of the woods.
Although things were looking better and Chad seeming to be get stronger daily, he was sent home to finish out his treatments. Daily trips to our local hospital for blood tests and iv treatments, Ct scans once a week and yet another round of antibiotics, finally they were able to pull the stomach drain tube out. Still the CT scan was still showing fluid, blood count still high and once again more high powered antibiotics were given to ward of the infection being caused from the abscess.
Since that day, Chad still isnt any better. We fight his white blood count daily with more antibiotics to no avail. Now he is having problems with his joints throughout his body. With his knees swelling and weakness throughout his body, he is often wheelchair or bed dependent.
Chad is a man of few words, but his actions speak volumes as to the type of selfless man he is. He is a husband, father, grandfather, son and uncle to so many. Chad opened not only our home but his heart as well. Taking in so many family members who needed help, friends who needed a shoulder to lean on or a child who came from a broken home. He has always opened his heart and his home. He gave anyone and everyone a safe place they could depend on, working long hours and doing all he could to provide for friends and family. His love and devotion to our family goes above and beyond the call of duty. His grandchildren adore their papa and are hopeful that he will be able to once again play with them like he has in the past. They miss that so much. He gives everyday to our family, sick or not. We are so blessed. Now its our turn to give back to him.
