Last Monday, Jonah went to the ER for leg pain. He left with life-changing news: a malignant tumor had fractured his bone. Jonah, just starting his life with his new wife, Salem, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma—a rare and aggressive bone cancer. In an instant, their world turned upside down.

Thanks to quick action from his doctor, family, and his local USCG unit, Jonah was flown to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, where his diagnosis was confirmed within 48 hours. Over the next 8-12 months, Jonah will undergo six months of intense chemotherapy and a major surgery in hopes of saving his leg and preserving his future.

We are incredibly thankful for the swift medical response, as time is critical—every week could be the difference between full recovery, the loss of his leg, or even his life. However, with this life-saving care comes immense disruption to Jonah and Salem’s lives.
