Help Nina Fight Stage 3 Liver Disease
Nina needs our help to raise money for her stage 3 Non alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) treatment and recovery. After 15+ years of failing health, she finally got the answers she needs to take care of herself—she’s stubborn and independent but needs her community to have her back while she recovers
Nina has always had 2 jobs: One to pay bills as a care coordinator and one to help her community either for free or with sliding scale costs as a birth and postpartum doula.
We don't know how much her total treatment will cost, as she may need both a biopsy and surgery in October. Edit (9/18): The surgery is now likely going to be covered by insurance.
Edit (11/26): After much testing, Nina has found that she does not need surgery. However, the medications that would start her healing process are unaffordable. The funds raised have gone towards the costs of all of the necessary tests Nina needed to diagnose the severity of her NAFLD. She still needs money for medication, bills, and rent!
We need to make sure she's able to pay for medical bills, rent, and medications, and ongoing treatment including extreme diet changes. We need Nina to rest and recover to be stronger than ever to live a long and healthy life in service to other.
She has endured dozens of doctors who have dismissed her concerns due to being latina, queer, disabled and plus sized.
Nina has amazing goals and talents: She’s a small business owner and amateur wedding singer. She was in the process of starting a 2nd business with her best friend (Me!) for micro weddings after finding out how expensive it was for her clients to get married.
She wants to be a midwife nurse practitioner and had to pause her education after getting into her dream nursing school due to her severe health concerns.
Nina is a great friend, proud Titi and comadre always thinking about her 2 godkid’s futures and she's always giving her last dollar away to make sure her community is okay. We need to give her some of that love back
