In July 2023, Jozsef joined Network Rail, where he made lots of friends and he has become such an asset to Network Rail. He has so much to live for, has plans for the future, with his long-term girlfriend, Natasha (Tasha). We had noticed over a period of time that he would occasionally have the odd trips or falls, so concerned for his welfare we told him to go and see a doctor to explain his symptoms.
Sadly, back in September 2024, Jozsef was only 24 years old when he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. He is the youngest person in Bedford to have this awful disease. This was such a huge shock to him, his family, friends and us as his close colleagues within the department. Over the last 16 months, he has slowly started to lose his confidence in walking and the strength in his hands. This is a life-limiting condition that has already caused a significant decline in his mobility and independence.
Jozsef is living with motor neurone disease, but he refuses to let it define him. He is determined to carry on working for as long as he can—not only to keep his sharp, brilliant mind fully engaged, but to future-proof the life of his long-term partner. Every day, he chooses purpose, dignity, and strength in the face of MND.
Unfortunately, as he and Tasha are in full time work, he has no support from the council and the MND Association are only limited to 3K per year, so any modifications he needs to do to his bungalow/car, he will need to fund himself.
Jozsef has had a quote estimating around £18,000 to have all the modifications and adaptations to be done to his bungalow. This is essential work that needs to be done as his condition is declining for him to move around his home with dignity and as much independence where possible.
