MND Ice Bucket Challenge

For some time, I have wanted to help Matty and Bianca with their mission to raise awareness for MND, a hideous disease they are fighting together and one for which there is no cure. Finally, after a few false starts due to COVID, the time has now arrived!

A strong, healthy, fit, 39-year-old dad and husband, Matt was diagnosed in February 2020 with ASL, a type of MND. The average life expectancy of MND is 2 – 3 years. This resilient and awe-inspiring family is giving this fight everything they have, living by the quote, 'when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade'.

Not only are they fighting their own MND battle, but they are promoting an awareness and understanding of MND to help others sharing a similar journey, whether it be now or in the future.

With a disease that has no cure and the exact cause not known, the fight is big. My employer, O'Donnell & Hanlon (ODH), is supporting me in raising funds to donate to Matty and Bianca to help them continue raising awareness and fighting this hideous disease.

As a part of my fundraising, we are holding a work lunch next Thursday with fundraising activities, a donation box and………the MND Ice Bucket Challenge! The largest doners at work will each have the pleasure of tipping a bucket of ice water on my head!

While planning this, I thought, "why stop at lunch?" While you may not be able to join me for lunch and witness the ice bucket challenge live, any donation, big or small, would mean the world to me. The challenge will be filmed and posted on Facebook to prove I stayed true to my word!
