For my 43rd birthday, I got a mammogram with suspicious results. After an MRI and two biopsies, the breast specialist confirmed that the Suspicious Interloper is stage zero ductal carcinoma so now it's a dirty, rotten Cancerous Interloper, and it's time to excise it from my body. 

On August 26, I will have a double mastectomy.  Due to my personal anatomy, and the likelihood of changing teams in a few months as my husband finds a new job, my plastic surgeon and oncologist agree that it's best for me to fully heal from the surgery before beginning reconstruction in a few months. 

The good news: I should not need radiation or chemo unless pathology after surgery comes back with something more aggressive than they currently think. As far as testing has shown, it hasn't gone anywhere besides the ducts of my left breast. It's likely that something else will kill me, ideally in a very long time.

The hard-to-ask news: we could really use financial help to make it through this challenge. Not only will I be recovering from major surgery and unable to work, I'll need help to do even basic tasks for several weeks.
