Malik Hayes is a Davenport University (Grand Rapids, MI) football student athlete who was critically injured on the night of November 17th, 2019, while assisting teammates in pushing a car that had run out of gas. In the process of helping, a car hit them from behind. Malik suffered severe injuries to both of his legs. Luckily, good Samaritans jumped into action and applied tourniquets to stop bleeding. Their quick actions not only saved Malik’s life, but they also saved his legs.
To date, Malik has already had 5 surgeries with several more planned in the near future. He has a long road of healing and recovery ahead with rehabilitation estimated at one to two years. While Malik has a strong support system of coaches, teammates and friends in place in Grand Rapids, his mother, Marian Green, lives in Lake Charles, Louisiana. This Go Fund Me page is being established to assist Marian in being by her son’s side during the recovery process.
The monetary donations are to relocate from Lake Charles to Michigan in order to help him recover. Marian will have to resign from her position in Lake Charles in order to be with Malik. This move requires her to uproot her and her two small children and move to Michigan until Malik is strong enough to take care of himself.
Immediate Financial Needs:
• Cost of travel to and from Louisiana • Miscellaneous expenses associated stay in Grand Rapids (rental car, meals, etc.) • Lost income
During this long rehab process, Malik has plans to complete his Masters degree which should happen within the next 18 months.
This financial assistance will allow both mom and Malik to continue focus on healing and recovery.
The prayers and support received by Malik and his family have been overwhelming! Please keep them coming!
