Help Linda to Fight CANCER
Donation protected
My Dear sister-in-law Linda 36, is a devoted mother to her son Emiliano (14) and wife of 16 years to her husband Ruben. From their small modest home in Celaya Mexico in the state of Guanajuato Linda takes care of the house and gets her husband off to work and Emiliano off to school. Rueben rides a motorcycle to where he works as the family does not have a car. 14 months ago, Linda went to see the doctor, a lump on her breast. There really is no medical insurance in Mexico. You either go through the IMSS (Mexican equivalent of Medicare) or you private pay. The doctor told her it was not cancer and gave her a salve to apply. 4 months later there was no improvement and she returned to the doctor, again he told her nothing to worry about, apply more salve. When she returned after 13 months the doctor said she needed to see an oncologist.
She was able to get an appointment but had to wait 3 months for an opening, The oncologist confirmed that she had stage 3 cancer.
The news was devastating for the family, Rueben cried at the thought of his wife having cancer. This a huge challenge for any family but imagine what it is like in a third world (emerging) nation? Luckily, my husband is in Mexico visiting and he was able to help and support her.
Linda was required to go see an OBGYN to obtain a referral for the oncologist? I’m not sure why but this is what they were told. Linda and Miguel got up at 4 AM to catch the three busses that would take them to the clinic. There they stood outside for four hours waiting to see someone. When it was finally there turn, they were told they needed an appointment and the next available was in January, 2024
It is unimaginable for Americans to think they would have to wait another 3 months to see a doctor for a referral when she had been misdiagnosed a year earlier.
They went to a private pay doctor which took all the money they had saved. The doctor confirmed that it was in fact stage 3 cancer but that it had not spread! His treatment recommendation is two radiation treatments to shrink the tumor, then surgery to remove followed by two more rounds of radiation.
There is hope! Today while I sit at home in Florida, the family has gone to Mass to pray for a miracle, later they will go to another church in another town to pray. Saturday and Sunday a yard sale netted just over $100.00. It is going to take more than this to save her life.
Please, donate to help Linda! What ever you can is appreciated. Funds will be gathered here in the US and then wired to Linda to cover Doctor visits, treatment and surgery. An accounting of all funds raised is available to anyone who requests it.
If you are simply unable to donate even $10.00 then please please share this to everyone on your social network and ask them to share as well.
It takes a village and right now, we need a country!
Thank you,
Erik
