Hi everyone, Nova is a 1.5 year old French bulldog who over the last couple weeks has been experiencing severe back pain on/off. Last week she had MRI with a neurologist showing she has an infection in the disc in her spine. The infection is called “discospondylitis” the bacteria is unknown at this time but blood and urine cultures were taken and are pending.
It is a suspicion that the bacteria in her spine originated from a nasty skin infection she had back in December called MSRP which is a resistant staph infection. We are hoping that this is not the cause of the infection as she has very limited antibiotic choices.
The treatment for discospondylitis consist of long-term antibiotic therapy as well as other pain medications. Right now she has a fentanyl patch for pain control. She will need future MRI and other imaging to determine the status of the infection. She may even need long term hospitalization as she has trouble eating/drinking and taking her meds. Any amount is appreciated and I hope nova will continue to “FIGHT LIKE A FRENCHIE”
