Feeding Families for Free & Healing Florida's Land — Behind It All, EcoGrowProject Has Faith
Hello, my name is William Fralin. As an Associate Environmental Scientist educated at St. Petersburg College, a former nursery and landscaping business owner, and a longtime Pinellas County watershed volunteer, I have spent years working hands-on in Florida's soil and waterways.
Working right here in Largo and across Pinellas County, I have witnessed two urgent challenges happening side by side:
1. Hardworking families and seniors in our own neighborhoods are struggling to afford fresh, healthy, pesticide-free produce. No family should ever have to choose between paying utility bills and putting nutritious food on the table.
2. Our fragile Florida wetlands and coastal watersheds are being choked out by aggressive invasive trees—specifically Australian pine and Brazilian pepper—which crowd out native habitats and, when cleared and burned in open piles, release massive amounts of carbon into the atmosphere.
I knew there had to be a way to solve both challenges at the same time—using environmental restoration to power community food security. That conviction led me to found EcoGrow Project, Inc., a Florida non-profit organization based in Largo, Pinellas County.
Behind it all, EcoGrowProject has Faith. We have faith that damaged creation can be healed. We have faith that when neighbors step up for neighbors, no one in our community goes hungry. And we have faith that every seed planted in love yields a harvest of hope.
How Our Mission Works: Two Challenges, One Living Solution
1. Feeding Families for Free & Empowering Local Churches
Our primary heartbeat is Feeding Families for Free across Pinellas County:
- Free Neighborhood Produce Stands: We grow and distribute crisp, hyper-local, chemical-free lettuce, kale, tomatoes, peppers, and culinary herbs through free neighborhood produce stands so families in need can take home fresh food with dignity and at zero cost.
- Free Church & Ministry Garden Installations: We partner directly with local churches and faith ministries across Pinellas County to install turnkey vertical hydroponic gardens—capable of harvesting 40 to 60+ fresh heads of greens every single month—completely free of charge so congregations can feed their surrounding neighborhoods.
- Teaching Families to Grow Their Own Abundance: From zero-electricity passive patio planters and vertical hydroponic towers to raised beds with water-saving automated drip irrigation, we teach our community how to build and maintain resilient, climate-friendly gardens right at home in the Florida sun.
2. Reclaiming Florida's Ecosystems & Locking Away Carbon (The Biochar Cycle)
Healthy food begins with living soil and clean water:
- Clearing Invasive Hazards: We actively remove destructive Brazilian pepper and Australian pine from local lands and waterways so native Florida mangroves, plants, and wildlife can thrive again.
- Turning Invasive Wood Into Organic Biochar: Instead of letting cleared wood rot or burn in open piles, we recycle the clearing debris through clean thermal conversion (pyrolysis) to create high-grade organic biochar.
- Permanent Carbon Lock & Clean Watersheds: Every ton of biochar produced safely locks away 2.5 to 3.0 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent for hundreds of years. When blended into our community raised beds and coastal filtration areas, this porous biochar acts like a natural sponge—holding moisture, enriching soil life, and filtering out harmful runoff before it reaches Tampa Bay.
Why We Need Your Support Right Now
We have already cleared the major organizational hurdles: EcoGrow Project, Inc. is officially incorporated in the State of Florida, fully banked, and ready to serve our community.
Now, we need your help to fund our initial equipment, staging, and community garden supplies so we can get our hands in the dirt, clear invasive trees, and build free produce stands and church gardens across Pinellas County.
Every dollar donated goes directly toward:
- Fuel, safety gear, and clearing tools to remove invasive Brazilian pepper and Australian pine and convert the wood debris into soil-enriching biochar.
- Non-GMO seeds, starter plugs, organic nutrients, and lumber to build and stock our Feed Families for Free neighborhood produce stands.
- Turnkey vertical hydroponic towers and automated raised beds installed free of charge at partnering local churches to nourish families in need.
(Please note: Donations are pure gifts to support our community mission; no goods or services are provided in exchange for contributions.)
Stand With Us — Plant a Seed of Faith Today
Whether you are able to donate today or simply share this fundraiser with your friends, church family, and neighbors, you are directly helping us protect Florida's environment, lock away carbon, and feed families for free.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for believing in this mission—because behind it all, EcoGrowProject has Faith.
With gratitude and faith,
William Fralin
