FIGHT FOR TIAGO:

On December 24th, as Tiago was preparing to return home from work to celebrate Christmas with his family, a phone call changed everything. ICE had shot him multiple times in the state he calls home, Maryland, and he was taken into detention.

What should have been a joyful welcome home for his youngest son’s first Christmas celebration became the beginning of an ongoing nightmare.

Tiago remains in custody with a bullet still in his body. Since the day ICE shot him multiple times, his family has struggled to ensure he receives the consistent, specialized medical follow-up care that could be life-saving. Each day without proper medical attention increases the risk to his health. Each day without adequate care prolongs the trauma Tiago's family is enduring.

Tiago is the primary provider for his household. He is a devoted father to two young U.S. citizen children. His sudden detention has left his family not only emotionally devastated but also financially unstable.

In January, while Tiago remained in detention, his youngest son turned one year old, a milestone that should have been filled with celebration, photographs, family joy, and beautiful memories. Instead, it was marked by fear and uncertainty of his father's survival.

Now, his older son is about to turn four. Another birthday approaches, and his father is not home.

These family milestones should have been celebratory moments. Instead, these moments have been spent in crisis. Rather than planning birthdays and building memories, this family is fighting for their father’s life after experiencing this ICE brutality. Their focus is no longer on family unity and celebration; it is on fighting for Tiago's survival and liberation, advocating for his medical care, and family reunification.

As the sole provider, Tiago’s absence has placed immense financial strain on his family. The family is facing mounting bills, groceries, rent, utilities, and other expenses. At the same time, they are navigating the emotional toll of advocating for Tiago’s basic medical needs.
