We adopted our dog Roscoe three years ago, and he has been the heart of our home ever since. He brings joy to even the worst times and gave me a reason to be happy when one didn’t seem to exist. But shortly after his adoption, he was diagnosed with epilepsy. For two years, his seizures were well controlled, and he enjoyed a happy, normal life full of long walks and sprinting through fields.

Over the last year, everything changed. His seizures began returning despite increased medication, and he’s started having progressively painful episodes in his back legs. Some days he can’t stand at all for short periods, and it’s heartbreaking to watch him struggle.

We took him to an orthopedic specialist hoping for clarity, but we did not get the answers we hoped for. After X-rays found mild arthritis but not enough to explain the pain or sudden weakness, his team now believes the cause is neurological, likely involving his spine or spinal cord. And unfortunately, the only way to truly understand what’s happening and to know how to help him is to get an MRI. Without it, we’re stuck in the dark, trying to manage symptoms without knowing what’s actually causing them.

We want to give him every chance at comfort and a full, happy life, but the cost is beyond what we can manage alone right now on top of his seizure medication, pain treatments, and specialist visits. He’s been through so much and loves every day so much even when he’s struggling. He still begs to play tug of war until we are more tired than he is on good days. He still loves to go on walks, especially in the woods. He still wags his tail so hard it’s like his own personal earthquake is happening. Roscoe is still sparkling with happiness and joy, and fighting to do what he loves. So, we ask that you join his fight. Help us give him back some of the love he gives to everyone he meets.
