Fight for my dads right to healthcare and shelter

Donation protected
Can you imagine going into the hospital for high-risk open-heart surgery, and while receiving treatment, you’re exposed to C. Auris, labeling you with a scary infection for the rest of your life? But just wait… while in the hospital, you lose your housing, car, and everything you own because you are in the hospital for months and can’t work… and because we can’t find you placement in a nursing home because of this new hospital-acquired infection, they discharge you homeless and to the streets to figure it all out on your own. My dad is being denied necessary medical care because of this infection. And, unfortunately, my dad is not the first person to be a victim of our broken healthcare system.

In opposition to this unsafe discharge, I was told this was a “social issue” and that he was “medically cleared” despite losing everything while being hospitalized. He doesn’t even have an income to get food.

Keep in mind, my dad was extremely critical and on a ventilator for several weeks. He is malnourished, weak, needs PT & OT, medication help due to ICU delirium… and the list continues. Nursing homes won’t take him because of this infection. He was denied from 50+ nursing homes and I have been fighting this for months. Where do I go next??? I am left to figure out how to raise money to get him shelter like his own apartment and then fight for a home health nurse to come in (with only having Medicaid) and give him the medical attention that he needs and deserves.

With nowhere left to turn, I am starting this GoFundMe to start his fight to receive healthcare. My dad needs a safe place to sleep. He needs food. He needs medical attention and help. I will bring awareness to the issues of so many people not getting healthcare and being dumped out to the streets. My dad is currently at a hotel being paid for by a local church, but only has a few more days with no plan after.

If you can’t donate, please help share and bring awareness to our broken healthcare system. So many people don’t have someone who is willing to advocate on their behalf. This is just the start of our fight.
