Fight for Lyla's Autism Education

Lyla is a beautiful 7 year old Girl with Autism ,
She has a range of sensory needs , cannot communicate verbally & we are fundraising to help pay towards Legal fees to get her in an appropriate school .
Lyla currently attends a Local Authority Special needs school & whilst this is a lovely school & has brought her on Socially because of the complexity of Lylas Autism her education has suffered .
Last year Lyla began to have private communication therapy at home & it became apparent that she had so much more knowledge of the world than we thought , She knew all her numbers , coulours & upper and lower case letters , after only a few sessions she began counting & is now starting to spell .
After discussions with her current school everyone was in agreement that she needed a more Autism specfic education to broaden these skills from key stage 2 ( this September 2017 ) .
Lyla's parents have found an Autism only school that specialises in Pre-Verbal Autism .The school have assessed Lyla & said they can meet her needs & that she would thrive there however as this is an Independent school the Local Authority have declined the school place in favour of another maintained special school which offers the same type of education as her current school ... This is largely down to cost .
Lyla's parents now have no choice but to appeal the Local Authoritys decision & will now be facing a SEND Tribunal .
To ensure they have the best chance of a positive outcome they are instructing an Advocate to represent them & will need to have several private reports done to provide evidence for thier appeal , this includes reports from Speech & Language , Occupational Therapy & Educational Psychologist.
The estimated cost is around £10,000 !!! & whilst Lyla's parents have said they will borrow or loan the money we as her friends feel that we want to help them to get Lyla the Education that she deserves .
On October the 21st we are going to complete the Great south Run 5k with all sponsership going to Lyla's Fund .
We will also be holding other fundraising events throughout the year & will keep you updated on this .
