Our dear mate Kate, devoted mum to Maksim and Sofia, and loving life partner to Brad has been given the devastating news that she's in for her second fight for her life with breast cancer.
To say the timing of this diagnosis couldn't have come at a worse time is an understatement. Kate was just getting back on her feet after tearing her meniscus plus slipping and breaking her sacrum, spending the last six months on crutches.
On top of this, Brad was made redundant for the second time in 2 years, resulting in nearly a year out of work.
Kate was first diagnosed with breast cancer 14 years ago at the young age of 28. After two lumpectomies, she went through chemotherapy and radiation.
Due to previous treatment, radiation is not an option for Kate this time around but there are still many options of treatments with none being ruled out and some massive surgeries are on the cards in the next couple of weeks.
What I know so far is that Kate and Brad are looking at between $30,000 to $40,000 out of pocket medical expenses. This doesn't take in to account Kate's loss of income for the time she needs to focus on healing and recovery. Nor does it take in to account Brad's loss of income for the time he will need to take off work.
I'm hoping that by sharing this with you all, we may be able to take a small amount of this financial burden of this beautiful family. Perhaps you can donate the cost of a cup of coffee? Whatever the amount, I know Kate and Brad will be full of gratitude and love for you all.
