Help Me to Help My Daughter and Grandchildren Overcome Domestic Violence and Legal Fees.

Intro: Hello family and friends, and to all who may not know me! My name is Kelly Traybsza, and I am reaching out to you for support during one of the most challenging times of my life. My daughter is a survivor of Domestic Violence and is currently facing significant legal fees to ensure the safety of herself and her children. She has 16 yr. old twin girls, and a 3 yr. old son who is autistic and nonverbal.

The Situation:

For years, she has endured physical, emotional, psychological, and financial abuse at the hands of her spouse while being a housewife/homemaker and attending school to pursue her nursing career. She did gig work on the side to help provide for herself and the children because of the financial abuse. Despite the pain, fear, and lack of funds, she finally found the courage to leave him and seek protection. However, the journey to freedom is not as easy as one may think. She is now entangled in a complex litigation that includes securing restraining orders, custody of her children, and divorce proceedings. Her spouse has tried to strip her of her vehicle which is the only mode of transportation that she has to work, get the kids to and from the places they need to be, and of course get herself to and from court.

Why I need your help: Legal fees are mounting, and the financial burden is overwhelming. The cost of hiring a competent attorney, filing court documents, and attending numerous court hearings is beyond her current means. Without adequate legal representation, she risks losing custody of her children and all of their safety. When we started this journey in January of this year, we hired a law firm that requested 15K. I gave her what I had available to me and took out a loan to help with the rest. They got started on her case but not only were they NOT competent, they were also greedy. They blew through $7,500 very quickly and requested that same amount to bring her retainer amount back up to the 15K. I had to acquire another $7,500 so that they could continue working on her case. That money was also spent rather quickly, and they sent another request. Not much progress had even been made on the case to understand where the money was going so fast. The opposing counsel has set continuance after continuance to waste time and finances. With money still in my daughter's trust account, but not the full retainer amount, (15K) her attorney filed a motion to withdraw from her case and did NOT show up to her trial, which resulted in the case being dismissed for "Want of Prosecution." This means that no significant progress had been made in a certain amount of time. We refused to let the same attorney continue handling her case, so we worked diligently to find & hire new counsel for her, which meant another 4K out of my pocket. With the help of the new attorney, the next trial date is in November, which costs an additional $10,000. Now I need help to make sure that she gets there. I am out of funds and resources to be able to continue helping her on my own.
