On October 2, 2023, our family experienced a tragedy that no family should ever have to endure. My father Sylvester Demetrius Selby was murdered in Manteo, North Carolina after an altercation with law enforcement, his untimely death brings many unanswered questions to our family. Those that knew him knew, that to know him was to love him. He would go above and beyond to help anybody in their time of need. Our family has been through so much in the past two years with his sister and niece being murdered in Elizabeth City and his daughter murdered in Isle of Wright, Virginia in January of this year. My father struggled living day to day, thinking about our loved ones whose lives were so innocently taken away, and now to think that his life has been taken from us, brings much grief to our families heart. While we have so many unanswered questions, we are confident that God is on our side, and justice will prevail for our family. While we aim to seek justice and answers to the many questions, our number one goal now is to put him to rest and provide a proper burial to him that he rightfully deserves.
