Help Us Support 25 year old Josh Winkleff
After 6 years of serving his country, Josh has another battle to fight - Cancer!
Here's a little piece of Josh's story...
Josh played 3 years of tackle football as a kid for the Cedar Grove Broncos, and 4 years of High School football for the Cedar Grove Rockets. He played Full Back on offense and Outside Linebacker on Defense. They always had a great team, with one year just missing going to the State Championship by one game. All those years and never an injury. Maybe a sore shoulder or a bad headache after a tough game or two, but that’s about it – one tough kid.
After football ended his senior year Josh approached his parents, out of the blue, and told them he was joining the Army National Guard. There would be no talking him out of it – despite his parent’s effort. His parents conceded to the notion and thanked God it was only the National Guard – he will get some great training, some discipline and maybe some great life experiences and some help with his college tuition. They were told that in signing up, he would one day be deployed, but thought, it’s the National Guard, maybe he'll go south and lay sandbags during hurricane season.. how bad could it be? Until he got the call alerting him he will be deploying to the Middle East for a full year. An entire year away from home, hostile countries, in the desert. After numerous handwritten letters, a lot of tears (mom's), sleepless nights and a sad Christmas without him, he came home safe; not a scratch on him. Finally, his mom can rest knowing that her son is home safe.
After coming home from the Middle East, Josh enrolled back in college full time to finish what he had started before being deployed. He is studying to get his degree in computer science. Taking a full credit load, working a fulltime job, and even bartending on the weekends to make extra cash, things were going great. Everything was back on track for Josh.
Then came the phone call that no parent would ever want to hear.. “Mom, I’ve got cancer”. After days of disbelief, countless tears, questions of why, numerous doctor appointments, CT Scans and surgery, the news just kept getting worse. Cancer spread to abdomen lymph nodes and metastasized to both lungs – Stage 3a”.
On Monday, April 19th, 2021 Josh starts 9 weeks of a very rough chemotherapy regimen which will prevent him from working (auto glass installer).
The chemotherapy hasn’t even begun and bills are piling up.
A group of us (his mother’s friends), are putting together a benefit for Josh in summer, but for now, we are asking for financial support to ensure Josh’s sole focus is on beating this disease!
On behalf of Josh and his family, we thank you in advance for your support!!
