FIGHT FOR JAMIN

Donation protected
On May 5th, 2016, my niece, Jamin, was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia). The news was crushing for our family.  For those of you that have had a family member diagnosed with cancer, you are familiar with the wide range of emotions that come over you.  The overwhelming feeling of sadness, anger, and ultimately helplessness knowing you can’t fix it.  At the time Jamin was diagnosed, she was only 6 years old.

After almost 3 years things we starting to look up.  Her cancer was in remission, her hair had grown back and she was even able to start doing normal things again like being able to return to school.  For a short period of time things were good.  Then just this past Christmas things came to a halt.  During a routine bone marrow and lumbar puncture, we received the news that she had relapsed, the cancer is back in her central nervous system (CNS).

Jamin is 9 years old now and lives in the Philippines with her mom (Tintin), dad (Angelo), and big sister (Angela).  Tintin and Angelo are taking on one of the most difficult challenges a parent may ever have to face, but I am continually amazed with how they do it with grace, strength and determination.  Which is why I want to help as much as I can.  Healthcare in the Philippines is very different than the US.  While cancer treatment in the US is still expensive, insurance here on average will help to cover 60-90% of the total expense.  In the Philippines, this percentage is reversed, where coverage may only help out with 15-30% of the total expense.

This January, Jamin started the induction phase of her treatment again. As part of the induction treatment, chemotherapy and steroid is administered around the spinal cord and brain which is called intrathecal chemotherapy.  Due to the relapse, her chemo must be significantly increased (from 60 mg to 3 grams per session). Next phase is the consolidation/intensification phase which is when the chemo treatment is made even stronger and she will be undergoing radiation. She will have to be admitted in the hospital for a couple of days every week, sometimes more, depending on what needs to be done or her reaction to the treatment. She will also have to be in an isolated sterile home environment because of her weak immune system.

Jamin is smart, funny and kind. She loves school and is an excellent student, but has had to stop again so she can start her chemo and radiation treatment. Jamin is one of the bravest girls I’ve ever met. Her faith is infallible and her spirit is strong. Imagining her having to endure months of chemotherapy, countless needles, endless nausea, fevers, infections and losing her hair again is heart wrenching.

The last couple of years my sister and her family have counted on the support of family and friends to help them through the struggles. And, we THANK ALL OF YOU for your love, support and prayers!

We started this little go-fund me page for Jamin to do what we can to help.  The medical bills are still arriving from Jamin’s 1st battle with cancer.  Even if we only raise a little bit of money for her, it will go a long way making things just a little bit better.

We ask for continued prayers for Jamin, Tintin, Angelo and Angela as they go through this next phase of what we all pray will be to cure Jamin so she can live a full and purposeful life. We know she will beat this again! We know she can, and with family and friends we will stand strong alongside her!

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to help!

Please join the “Fight For Jamin ” Facebook page to check on updates and milestones on Jamin’s progress. My sister also uses this page to share and help other families that is also going through the same ordeal.
