Angela has been an absolute rockstar during her diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer. Her and her family are extremely thankful for the prayers, support and generosity of their family and friends. Let’s continue to rally around them!
Angela has completed 16 rounds of chemo! The next steps are surgery on October 12th, followed by radiation in November. As of now, the surgery will include removal of the tumor, removal of the lymph node and reduction and reconstruction of both breasts. The recovery time from surgery will be about 3-4 weeks. The radiation will be daily for 5-6 weeks, which will equal 30-40 rounds of treatment. Also, following the surgery, Angela will go through physical therapy due to the removal of the lymph node. The surgery, physical therapy and radiation will result in a lot of time off work and a huge amount of gas from driving back and forth each day.
Angela’s out of pocket expense is $9,500 per year, then her insurance covers 100%. All of her appointments and treatments in 2023 have far exceeded $9,500, but she was extremely fortunate and grateful for the funds raised that she was able to pay those bills. 2024 starts a new year and resets her medical expenses at $0. 2024 will consist of continuing radiation, injections, testing and appointments to monitor reoccurrence. These expenses will add up quickly.
Depending on expenses, she would love to get eyebrow microblading and hair extensions to get through the awkward phase as her hair grows back in.
Please consider donating and supporting Angela and the Iorio family on their continued fight against breast cancer.
Please see below to read Angela’s story from the beginning.
In February 2023, Angela Iorio was diagnosed with breast cancer in her left breast and testing has shown that the cancer cells are angry, on the move and have spread to the lymph node under her left arm. This type of breast cancer is hormone based, very common and treatable.
She has undergone many biopsies, an MRI, and will have a PET scan and genetic testing soon, then a port placed via surgery.
Her doctors are amazing and ready to start an aggressive treatment plan. The port will be placed within the next 10 days then chemo will start ASAP. The first phase of treatment will be four rounds of chemo every two weeks. Then she will transition to weekly chemo treatment for 12 sessions. She will have blood work every week before treatment, to make sure her body is responding appropriately. Half way through treatment, she will have an ultrasound done to check for reduced size of the tumor. After the 16 chemo sessions, she will have another MRI, that will hopefully show enough reduction in the tumor size that it can be removed. 4 weeks later, she will have a lumpectomy surgery to remove the tumor and have a breast reconstruction.
Please keep Angela and her family in your thoughts and prayers. She is ready to get treatment started and kick cancer’s butt!
