Fight for freedom to buy and sell coins

In 2013 the Minnesota Legislature passed a Coin Dealer registration law. It was billed by the proponents as a way of protecting consumers, and they said it was the result of some crooked coin dealers who had recently been caught.

The problem is, as it is with most government regulatory schemes, what they claimed it was designed to do and what it was really designed to do where two different things.

The Minnesota attorney general at the time Lori Swanson, went to one of the large Minnesota Coin telemarketers to help her write the legislation. The company that helped write the law a company that, as an former employee would admit, would take advantage of older people by selling them over priced coins.

The legislation was really designed to create barriers to get small Minnesota coin dealers out of business, and keep larger coin dealers from dealing with Minnesota customers, thus protecting the market for the big Minnesota coin dealers.

The legislation also created a scheme to help fund government on the backs of coin collectors and dealers. The legislation required a registration fee for licensed dealers, but the cash cow was generated by the fines that the Department of Commerce would generate.

The Department of Commerce would find an out of state coin dealer, and would not particularly care if they were legally required to register with them. They would then threaten to take legal action against that coin dealer. The Department of Commerce knew full well that it was much cheaper for the company to pay the fine, than to fight the charges against them. The fines were typically in the $10,000 range, and would also require the companies to stop doing business with Minnesota Customers.

The law was blatantly unconstitutional, but they didn't care. They figured no one would challenge them in court. Well they figured wrong!    Your donation will support this challenge.

It is time to take a stand against this corrupt Government Scheme!

I have already engaged a lawyer with experience in fighting this type of government coercion.  He feels so strongly in our cause and has agreed to take the case on contingency.  He will get paid by the State, after we beat them in court.  The lawsuit has been drafted, and we are literally days away from filing.

The reason for this go fund me page, is to help get the word out about our case.  Studies have show that if you get publicity from your lawsuit against the government, it increases your chance of success.  We plan on using  the money to get professional assistance in generating media attention for our cause.  We also need expert witnesses and they do not come cheap,  we need to hire an expert economist to help make our case to the court at how this is law is disrupting the economy.
