FIGHT FOR FOWLERS - Raising awareness and support
My name is Laura, I am 25 years old and I suffer with Fowlers Syndrome.
This GoFundMe page is not fundraising to help me as an individual but to raise awareness for ladies who suffer with this horrible illness, and to raise money to support people young and old who have to manage life with catheters.
Since I was 15, catheters have been part of my life. At no point was I offered any kind of mental support. As a teenager, it is hard enough with the everyday life pressures to look a certain way, add a catheter, and my personal journey got so much harder.
I have recently discovered that Bladder Health UK have an online service, where sufferers of different bladder conditions can discuss their struggles confidentially, in a judgement free environment. Due to not receiving government funding, I would like to assist this charity in raising funds to be able to market and run this service to reach the people that needs it help!
Part of my fundraising will also be going to research for Fowlers Syndrome, a rare condition that effects a woman's ability to be able to pee normally! Whilst I imagine it sounds a simple condition compared to others, this condition produces extreme pain from spasms that can last for days, strips the ability to go to the toilet, resulting in having to use catheters and the build up of urine (in my case my bladder can now hold 3 litres!) and ongoing infections, which in some cases result in sepsis they get that bad! For sufferers such as myself, having a catheter isn't possible, as the muscle does not allow it, or eventually pushes it out, my life has been changed by Sacral neuromodulation surgery (a pacemaker like device that sits on the spine) but unfortunately this is very expensive, and ladies can get turned down for funding.
Please help me to raise awareness of this condition, and help improve the support that ladies such as myself, and people up and down the UK can gain from Bladder Health UK. I will be documenting my journey on my facebook page, which shows you the struggles that this illness can cause myself and my family - please feel free to follow this https://www.facebook.com/laura.dalby
Thankyou for reading up until this point, and please know any small donation makes the difference!
