Fight for Fontenot
David was diagnosed with a rare condition called Amyloidosis in the fall. Amyloidosis is a rare disease that occurs when a substance called amyloid builds up in a person's organs. Amyloid is an abnormal protein that is produced in the bone marrow and can be deposited in any tissue or organ. In David's case, it has been deposited into his heart, causing it to weaken.
David has undergone several procedures including chemotherapy treatments and biopsies. The next procedure is Autologous Blood Stem Cell Transplant (ASCT) which involves collecting his own stem cells from his blood and storing them for a short time while still receiving high-doses of chemotherapy. The stem cells will be returned to his body via a vein. This procedure will require hospitalization for around 3-4 weeks and the recovery time is at least another 3-4 weeks in which he will be unable to work and will be homebound.
Funds are needed now and in the future to help offset the cost of the hospital stay and the multiple procedures. You can also buy gift cards for the family to have dinners during the 3-4 weeks David is hospitalized.
There is no cure for Amyloidosis. But treatments can help David manage symptoms and limit the production of amyloid protein. After the procedure, the hope is that David will be in remission and all proteins will be removed from his bone marrow. These funds will help show our beloved community leader, friend, and father and his family Kay, Bella (11) and Luke (7) how much they are loved and cared for by our community.
